The Council of Hamlet's Revenge

Year: 1394

Role: Actor

Category: Acting

"The Council of Hamlet's Revenge" is a play by Hossein Jamali, considered an adaptation of Shakespeare's "Hamlet" that incorporates the performance methods of Iranian theater while integrating them with Western dramatic literature. This work was staged in 2013 at the 32nd Fajr International Theater Festival and later began its public run in 2015 at the Sayeh Hall of the Theater City complex in Tehran.

Remaining faithful to the original text, the play tells the story of a nephew seeking revenge against his uncle. Director Hossein Jamali has attempted to employ techniques from Iranian theater, particularly the art of Naqqali (traditional Persian storytelling and recitation), to develop a fluent and accessible language for introducing this classic work to an Iranian audience.
