The Poor Macbeth
1387 — Actor
"The Poor Macbeth" is a play written and directed by Payam Azizi, considered a free adaptation of William Shakespeare's "Macbeth." This work is performed using a new technique derived from Iranian theater, Ta'ziyeh, and Iranian symbolism. The director chose the title "The Poor Macbeth" due to the inevitability of Macbeth's character in a society where he has no way to gain power except through crime and betrayal.
The play was produced between 2008 and 2011 (1387–1390) and has been staged at numerous festivals and events. These include participation in the Mobarak Puppet Theater Biennale, the Student Theater Festival, the University Theater Festivals in Ankara and Istanbul, Turkey (May 2009), and the 29th Fajr International Theater Festival (February 2011).
